So the police are promoting this new method to warn people. The warning was issued following a complaint by a student and a businessman. The new scam to hack WhatsApp started on World Yoga Day i.e. 21st June.

Scammers first hack a person’s Facebook account. Then asked her friends to join the WhatsApp group created by a scammer for the yoga class.
Then they send a link and ask the recipient to click on it.
After clicking on the link, the scammers ask the recipient for a six-digit OTP. And if the recipient shares that OTP then the scammer can instantly access their WhatsApp account.
Actually that OTP is the verification code to use whatsapp.
What will happen to those whose WhatsApp accounts will be hacked?
Once the scammers get access to the whatsapp account, they try different traps. For example, many people ask for money to join the yoga class pretest.
Not only that, they can use this whatsapp account for illegal activities.

There are a few things you must take care of to avoid this type of scam.
First of all, don’t click on any unknown link. Before sharing any OTP, first, you need to understand from where it is being shared and why the OTP is asking for it.
You should not click on any message from an unknown number on WhatsApp with any offer or anything that you are not interested in and if there is any link with it.
